The Tollbuster
I never woke up to the fact that charging tolls was so dam illegal until the first time I approached a tollway with the coins in my hand and there was no coin basket in which to throw my change. That is when something triggered in my brain into thinking there is something wrong here. Later I received "official" literature from a "Mr. no name", no physical address and no legible signature – it didn’t give me the name of the alleged private company and only made reference to the “Relevant Corporation” with an inflated toll account, incorporating a penalty.

My fight against tolls
This all made me a bit angry and I'm stubborn by nature, so I dug my heels in and started researching. That is when I discovered there is part of the Australian Constitution that makes the current charging of Tolls by the States illegal. Chapter V “The States”, Section 115 "a State shall not coin money nor make anything but gold and silver legal tender in payments of debts".

Other reasons why I now don’t pay tolls
Fuel Excise is a tax charged by the Federal Government, for building roads, bridges and tunnels “the original RBTs” – also for the maintenance of these facilities.
Back in 1979, during the truck blockade on Razorback Mountain between Camden and Picton, Fuel Excise replaced Road Tax.
Every time you buy fuel for your car, truck, lawn mower or boat you pay 38.4 cents per litre Fuel Excise.
When you pay your vehicle registration or Drivers Licence part of those charges goes towards the original RBT's (Roads, Bridges, Tunnels).
The Australian Constitution “AC” states that “once a TAX is placed on anything by the Federal Gov. – no other TAX can be charged by any other Gov. State, Local Councils or otherwise even if that tax is removed by the Feds.
Therefore all RBTs are paid for by the Australian People so the people own the Roads, Bridges, Tunnels (RBT's).
Most State Governments, (especially QLD) feel a good way of boosting revenue is to sell off their infrastructure including RBTs. They sell them to mock investors that are in fact subsidiary companies (unlisted public companies incorporated by the State) and the State give those companies the right to charge a Toll on the very infrastructure that is paid by the people who already own the RBTs.
You can’t bypass these toll roads because they don’t build other motorways so you can do so.
